A certified, secure gateway for research with sensitive data

The Secure Research Services (SRS) provides Imperial researchers and their collaborators with a trusted, compliant environment to store and analyse sensitive research data – so you can focus on your research, not security overheads.

What is Secure Research Services?

The Secure Research Services (SRS) is provided by Research Computing Service (RCS), part of ICT at Imperial. It is an initiative to provide a unified, secure, and scalable framework for projects working with sensitive or restricted data.

SRS is designed to help researchers meet legal, regulatory, and data-provider security requirements, with straightforward onboarding and integrated technical and user support.

The service operates under a defined security control framework and is subject to regular audits.

SRS currently offers the BDAU Secure Environment, a platform for hosting and analysing pseudonymised sensitive data.

Projects using fully anonymised or publicly available data will not require access to SRS. In these cases, alternative RCS services – such as High Performance Computing (HPC) or the Research Data Facility (RDF) Active – may be more appropriate.

In the future, SRS will evaluate additional secure platforms to support identifiable data and secure HPC. To assist with this, there is a RCS-Technical Advisory Group (TAG) for Secure Environments, if you are interested in being part of this, please contact rcs-comms-team@imperial.ac.uk.
