Blending technology and business: why I chose MSc Business Analytics at Imperial

Imperial Business School combines business and science in a way that suited Tanishq Virwani’s background in computer science. Looking to expand her technical skills and apply them to real business challenges, she chose to pursue MSc in Business Analytics. The programme offers a balanced mix of technical learning and practical projects, including hands-on work with tools like large language models.
In this blog, Tanishq shares what motivated her to choose Imperial, her journey so far, and the opportunities that continue to shape her academic and professional journey.
Why I chose MSc Business Analytics at Imperial Business School
I am originally from Curaçao, a small island in the Caribbean. I completed my undergraduate degree in computer science in The Netherlands. After exploring Master’s programmes around the world, Imperial stood out for its balance of technical training and business relevance — I’m happy to say I made the right choice.
The variety of electives available on the MSc Business Analytics programme was the most appealing aspect to me. There really is something for everyone. The programme does a fantastic job combining analytics with real-world business challenges. Whether it’s learning about AI or large language models, we’re always engaging with the latest tools and technologies used in the industry.
Life as an Imperial Master’s student
The programme has been fast-paced and challenging — but it’s worth it. The programme’s hands-on learning approach and access to industry-standard tools prepare us to meet the demands of the job market and apply our skills either during our studies or immediately after graduation.

Key Highlight: The Consulting Project
The Consulting Project is a real highlight. We get to work directly with a company on a business problem they’re facing, which gives us practical exposure in problem solving and working with clients. It’s a great chance to consolidate our learning, gain insight in a professional setting, and receive feedback from those in the industry.
Opportunities and extracurricular activities
The Business School provides so many chances to connect with industry professionals. I’ve probably worn a suit more since starting here than ever before! Networking events, speaker sessions, and career panels help us build valuable connections and gain insight into different career paths. I’ve been able to meet some amazing people through these events.
How Imperial supports my career
The Careers team has been incredible. From CV (résumé) workshops to interview preparation and personalised coaching, their support has really helped me define my career goals. Thanks to their guidance, I found out about an exclusive J.P. Morgan and Moody’s event and was selected to attend! That experience gave me a clearer view of where I want to go professionally.
My final reflections on studying MSc Business Analytics at Imperial
I am focused on securing an internship in business analytics to get more hands-on exposure and deepen my understanding of industry practices. I also plan to keep making the most of the Business School’s career workshops and networking opportunities. And, of course, I am looking forward to the social events too — it's all about finding that balance!
My time at Imperial Business School has been fantastic. It’s intense, exciting, and full of opportunities — I can’t wait to see what’s next.
