What was your career experience prior to studying this programme?

Before joining Imperial College Business School, I gained three years of professional experience in different organisations. I started with internships at ArmeconomBank and IAB International Academy of Business, where I gained insights into the corporate and banking sectors. Afterwards, I worked as a Business Projects Coordinator at the European Business Association and later as a Project Coordinator at Superra, a fintech startup focused on creating a bond trading platform.

Driven by my passion for supporting international students, I co-founded a non-profit organisation called Erasmus - Student Network Yerevan, which aimed to assist students studying abroad. In my most recent role, I worked as a Financial Analyst at an AI company Cognaize analysing and processing financial statements and leading various projects.

Why did you choose to study MSc Finance & Accounting at Imperial College Business School?

The MSc Finance & Accounting programme at Imperial College Business School distinguishes itself through its diverse range of modules, catering to individuals with varying career aspirations, such as future investment bankers, fintech enthusiasts, auditors, accountants, and entrepreneurs, allowing them to find their passion, be constantly challenged and reap the rewards of their efforts.

One of the most appealing aspects of this programme is the emphasis on innovation across all modules and that is what attracted me most.

The modules offered in this programme hold great importance and are valuable for anyone aspiring to enter the financial world. For me, specifically, Investments and Portfolio Management, Blockchain and Applications, Innovation and Strategy in Fintech, as well as the international module of Corporate for Practitioners in Singapore were the most interesting ones to learn and enjoy the process of studying as they challenged me to think beyond the current financial market and explore innovative perspectives within the field.

Participating in discussions on industry news and major events during classes, along with having access to magazine subscriptions, organised conferences, and guest lectures, offers practical insights into the functioning of the financial industry and makes me feel in the centre of the field. These resources provide a window into the dynamics of the financial world, ensuring that I am well-informed and prepared for real-world experiences. How are you planning to use your Master’s for your future career?

Given my deep fascination with the opportunities presented by Fintech and AI in the field of finance, my career aspirations lie within the fintech sector. Building upon the knowledge and practical experience gained through this Master's programme, I am eager to further explore the exciting field of fintech and decentralised finance (DeFi). Looking ahead, my long-term goals revolve around entrepreneurship, as I aspire to make a tangible impact in promoting access to digital financial services. By combining my passion for finance and technology, I aim to create innovative solutions that empower individuals and foster financial inclusivity.

Are you part of any clubs or societies?

I am a member of the ICU Investment Society, Entrepreneurs, Fintech, Venture Capital & Private Equity societies that provide networking opportunities and first-hand knowledge from industry leaders.  Besides academic societies, I am also a member of the Dance Club, Harry Potter Society which makes the Imperial experience more fun and enjoyable.

What advice would you give to someone who’s considering applying for this programme?

Before deciding based on university/ programme rankings and reputation, I would advise doing research on the programme structure, modules and activities organised in the university. Moreover, do not miss the opportunity to talk to current students.

If you are hungry for knowledge and interested in gaining a thorough understanding of all aspects of Finance and later getting an opportunity to delve deeper into your most intriguing areas of interest, then this programme is right for you. The opportunities lie beyond the programme and there is a lot to take from the Business School itself, grow with it, and succeed in your career.
