On these pages, you will find all the information you need to support you in your role as a Line Manager.

  • Your role as Line Manager in the overseas working process is to understand the reason for your staff member’s request.
  • You should consider their overseas working eligibility (e.g. the difference between overseas working and business travel; their right to work in the destination country; their duties to be performed), as well as any operational considerations that will help shape your discussion (e.g. can their role be performed overseas; whether the timing and time zone impact on operations is feasible). The International Mobility guidance document will help you to understand what to consider during these conversations.
  • With your support in-principle, the staff member will be able to proceed and submit their overseas working request in the MyRemoteWork system for your area's Final Approver's decision.

On occasion, you may also need to recruit an employee to start work overseas (or work overseas permanently), in which case you will need to submit a request on behalf of the prospective employee. Please refer to details on the Information for staff page.

If a member of staff is already working overseas, or has worked overseas in the last 12 months, without submitting a request, please ensure they complete the International Mobility Footprint questionnaire for an up-to-date assessment.
