The key innovation in the work of the Leonardo Centre is our Business Impact Maturity model. It provides an advanced approach for interpreting the corporate sustainability behaviours recorded in the GOLDEN Sustainability Database.

Our research to date has produced pioneering results – especially around the evolving roles of Chief Sustainability Officers and the effect of Corporate Sustainability behaviours on Shareholder Returns.

But to move from exciting research breakthroughs to real-world action, we need to test and demonstrate that the Business Impact Maturity model is both empirically robust and practically useful for organisations seeking to transform their sustainability performance.

Our Business Impact Lab defines how we test, refine, and strengthen the model across the core organisational dimensions such as strategy, innovation, culture, and governance.

As one of the original architects of the Business Impact Maturity concept, Maurizio brings a foundational perspective to its design and purpose. As co‑developer of the Model, he is uniquely positioned to lead the rigorous testing and validation the framework needs to ensure its academic integrity and relevance in assessing organisational sustainability behaviours.
