Dr Lara Cathcart is an Associate Professor of Finance, and Academic Director of MSc Finance, MSc Risk Management & Financial Engineering, and MSc Financial Technology. Her current research interests encompass the key areas of credit risk and behavioural finance.
Professor Cathcart holds a PhD in Finance from the University of London. She has a particular interest in the sovereign and corporate credit default swap markets, and more recently has been interested in the impact of the media on financial markets.
Her work has appeared in finance journals such as Journal of Money Credit and Banking, Journal of Corporate Finance and Journal of Banking and Finance. She has also appeared in practitioner publications such as Risk and Professional Investor, and has featured in Euromoney, Investment Europe and Structured Credit Investor.She has served as an Associate Editor at the Journal of Banking and Finance, and is currently Associate Editor at the European Journal of Finance.
Her research has been funded with grants from the Economic & Social Research Council. She is a repeat member of the programme committee of the European Financial Management Association, and has consulted for several investment banks and for HM Treasury.
