Where to live

London boasts a number of neighbourhoods, each with a different culture, feel and personality. Popular areas close to South Kensington include Knightsbridge, Earl’s Court, Shepherd’s Bush, White City, Fulham, Putney, Clapham Junction and Battersea.

Imperial’s Accommodation Office offer useful advice on different areas including video summaries, transport links and average rent per week.

I live in Earl’s Court which is roughly a 20 minutes’ walk to Imperial. I decide to live walking distance as I wanted to avoid taking the underground every day. I enjoy walking in general and use the opportunity to kick start my day by either listening to podcasts or just planning my day and week.

I lived in a private student accommodation in Hammersmith. I ended up here because it seemed to be a vibrant part of the city, with well-connected travel lines, especially to Heathrow Airport. I have been travelling a bit abroad including for job interviews, and getting to the airport is both simple, fast and easy from Hammersmith. In addition, with several tube lines, it is very easy to get around in London.
