Imperial’s Alumni Engagement team is committed to putting alumni at the heart of its service delivery. We offer alumni a range of services, benefits and programming to support their lifelong connection with Imperial and with the alumni community.
Alumni code of conduct
- Statement of policy
- Acceptance of terms
- Code of conduct
- Governance and sanctions
- Useful links
- Contact information
To benefit from these services, as members of the Imperial community, alumni must behave in a way that is aligned with Imperial’s values, and to abide by the terms and conditions associated with the use of specific services.
In circumstances where alumni do not adhere to these principles and standards or exhibit inappropriate or unacceptable behaviour, their access to alumni services and benefits may be withdrawn.
Alumni are defined for this purpose as ‘any individual who has studied a full term at the university, Imperial’s constituent colleges, or any of the colleges with which Imperial subsequently merged.’ Guests of alumni are also covered by this policy.
By participating in alumni programming, you agree to abide by this policy and the following code of conduct. This includes:
- Registering for an event sponsored, hosted, or promoted by Imperial College London and/or by alumni of Imperial (including events which take place at non-Imperial locations).
- Using the Alumni Visitor Centre.
- Accepting a volunteer role and/or joining an alumni network or group.
- Engaging with Imperial staff, for example through use of the alumni helpdesk email and phone number, or when meeting with staff in person.
By participating, you also acknowledge that the Alumni Code of Conduct is subject to review and might be changed without prior notice. You accept responsibility for familiarising yourself with, and abiding by, these terms.
Whether activities are taking place at Imperial or away from the university campus, they should be considered an extension of the professional workplace and learning environment and offer the same protections to staff and students. We would therefore expect alumni to view their activity as an opportunity to exemplify Imperial’s commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI), and to the values and behaviours that we want to shape our working environment.
Imperial College London does not tolerate any form of harassment, victimisation, or discrimination directed towards its community, including in person, over the telephone, in writing or online.
Examples of unacceptable behaviour include:
- Causing distress or inconvenience to other alumni, staff or guests.
- Verbal abuse including sexist, racist, or exclusionary comments or jokes, inappropriate sexual attention or innuendo, offensive or belittling comments related to gender, sexual orientation, disability, age, physical appearance, body size, ethnicity or religion.
- Deliberate intimidation, threats, coercion, stalking.
- Inappropriate physical contact, physical assault, or lewd behaviour.
- Harassment such as sustained disruption of events.
- Photographing or recording of an individual without consent.
- Damage to property.
We expect that members of the Imperial alumni community will treat each other with courtesy and consideration. When someone is asked to stop any behaviour that makes others uncomfortable, they are expected to comply immediately.
Additional alumni policies
Alumni are expected to abide by additional policies, codes of conduct and terms of use when engaging with specific services and benefits:
- Code of conduct for alumni event attendees
- Code of conduct for alumni volunteers
- Alumni Visitor Centre Regulations
Imperial policies

- This may include removing them from events, projects, mailing lists, groups or networks.
- It may also include banning the individual(s) concerned from the use of or access to Imperial’s properties, campuses, buildings, facilities, or services.
- A temporary or permanent ban will depend upon the significance of distress or inconvenience to staff or other users, and the risk of damage to property.
- In cases of serious misconduct, staff members, students and other alumni should report the behaviour to the Alumni Engagement team and Security.
