1. Apply online

Submit your application through our online application system

Applications are made through our online application system, which gives you the flexibility to complete your application in your own time and save your progress. The form includes questions about you and your educational history to date. You will also need to provide the following to submit your application:

Career planning statement

In the career planning statement you will need to show you have thought about the type of employer you want to work for immediately after graduating and have researched your target organisation(s) and role. You will also need to demonstrate you have the necessary skills and experience to succeed in your chosen role. If planning to set up your own business, you will need to outline what expertise or product your business will deliver and that you have researched the market. Whilst we want our students to hit the ground running, we understand that you will also be looking to develop gaps in your skill set to prepare for your chosen career and you will need to address this in the career planning questions. If you intend to stay working for your current employer, please use this element of your application to outline how the programme will help you to advance or transition your career within the Business Analytics sector.

Quantitative experience statement

All of our programmes include some quantitative content and so it is useful for the selection committee to have an understanding of the level of your quantitative experience to date. For MSc Business Analytics, it is a key selection criterion.

You will be asked to list up to five of the most quantitative courses you have covered in your studies to date, list the main topics included and the level of study (e.g. undergraduate degree, secondary school, short course etc).

Failure to complete the quantitative experience statement will delay the processing of your application.

Programming/computer software experience

You will be asked whether you have experience of using computer software packages and/or programming languages. Please list up to five computer software packages or programming languages that you are familiar with, whether your skills are at beginner, intermediate or advanced level and say what you have used them for. Software and programming skills are not an entry requirement, but it is helpful for the selection committee to understand your previous experience, if any.

If you are unable to provide any topics or examples please enter “no experience of this topic” rather than leaving it blank.

Application processing fee

You will be asked to pay an application processing fee of £80.

2. Supporting information

Once you have submitted your application form, you will need to upload the following supporting information to complete your application in time for the application deadline you want to be considered by.

It’s essential that we receive your supporting documents and reference information before midnight (UK time) of the deadline for which you are applying. Until we have received all the necessary documents, your application will not be complete and will not be processed.

Contact details of two referees

You will need to provide the contact details of two referees (one of which must be academic). When you submit your form, the online application system will send an automatic reference request directly to their professional email accounts so they can submit their recommendation letter quickly and efficiently online.

Full transcripts of your degree level studies to date

You will need to submit electronic copies of your full degree transcripts and certificates (with English translations if necessary).

Transcripts should include: details of all of the modules studied on the degree, your marks for each, and the overall mark, grade or classification that you achieved if you have completed your studies. 

Most of our MSc programmes do not require a GMAT, yet a well-balanced result (usually with a total score above 650) will definitely add weight to your application.

If you have already taken the GMAT or GRE, you should upload a copy of your results and request your score to be released to Imperial College Business School. This will enable us to verify your results online, so you should not send a hard copy unless we request it.

To submit your score online, you must request for it to be shared with Imperial College Business School. Our GMAT code is S22-7S-16 and our GRE code is 0121.

If you have decided to take the GMAT or GRE, please include details of your planned test date on the application form and ensure that you contact the Admissions team once your score is available.

Personal statement

Your personal statement provides an opportunity to demonstrate your suitability for the programme. Typically your personal statement should be one side of A4 and include your motivations for applying to Imperial, and any other supporting information not included elsewhere on the form that you feel will enhance your application.

CV

You must include a full and up-to-date curriculum vitae (CV) – we do not require that you use a particular format, but a CV template is available here for your convenience.

English language test results

If English is not your native language, you may be required to take an English language test (see Entry Requirements for accepted tests and required scores). You should upload a scanned copy of your English language certificate.

You may submit your application form before you have obtained English language test results. Please include details if you have a planned test date on the application form and ensure that you contact the Admissions team once your score is available.

3. Interview

We will evaluate your application, and if selected, you will be invited to interview – normally this will be through our video interview platform, which you can access online to record and submit your answers; occasionally you may be invited to interview via Skype or telephone instead.

If you are invited to submit a video interview, you will be sent details of how to access and use the Kira Talent online interview platform. Please make sure that the invitation doesn’t go to your junk mail by adding kiratalent.com to your list of safe senders. Once you have created an account, you will be asked a series of questions, to which you can record your answers as short videos and submit them online.

You must complete your online interview by the deadline stated in the email. If the email has gone into a junk, spam, or clutter folder in your inbox, we will not be able to rearrange a new interview for you, and your application will be considered for withdrawal.

A great way to prepare for your interview is to use the Kira Prep function. Here you will be able to practice responding to general timed spoken and written questions, review your responses and unlock additional tips.

Please note: our video interviews are conducted via the Kira Talent platform. As Kira Talent is an independent third party service provider with their own terms and conditions of service and privacy policy, please familiarise yourself with these and ensure you are happy with them before proceeding to use the Kira service and platform.

4. Application result

You will be notified informally via email and officially via your Imperial Gateway account with the result of your application. If you are successful you can then meet your conditions of offer, accept your place and pay your deposit.
