International experiences

MSc International Management has international elements embedded throughout the programme, so you will graduate with applied, international leadership experience.

As well as attending the European Immersion and completing the Leadership in Action module, you will also have the opportunity to expand your international experience further by applying to take modules at one of our global partner universities or choosing to take the Global Immersion elective along with other students in the Business School.

Compulsory elements

The Leadership in Action module runs throughout the year. You will be introduced to advanced concepts in developing leadership skills with a focus on providing you with a practical yet theoretically grounded collection of tools you can use to be an effective leader and developer of people – one who earns the respect, appreciation and gratitude of the people who work with and for you in your future career.

During the Leadership in Action module, you will also learn how to use design thinking techniques to lead in uncertain times in order to foster creative confidence and enable innovation.

The European Immersion will give you the opportunity to experience first-hand the dynamics of business in another country. The two-day trip will consist of a number of visits to technology and innovation companies, and a networking event. In previous years, students travelled to Lisbon for their European Immersion.

Optional experiences

The optional one-week Global Immersion will give you the opportunity to experience first-hand the social and cultural dynamics of business in another country. The trip will consist of a number of visits to different companies across a range of industry sectors, as well as social and cultural activities. Offering excellent networking opportunities, you will travel with students from other programmes across the Business School.

Global Immersion destinations for 2022-23 are Dubai and Singapore.

Please note that students will be required to pay additional costs.

You will have the chance to expand your international experience further by applying to take modules at one of our global partner universities. Each university has its own specialism allowing you to tailor your CV to your specific career aspirations.

We are pleased to be part of the Global MiM Network, an international exchange programme for Master’s in Management students, between four leading business schools.

This gives you the opportunity to study at another business school for up to one term as part of the MSc International Management programme, providing an enhanced, authentic global study experience.

The other business schools in the Global MiM Network are:

  • ESMT Berlin (Germany)
  • Singapore Management University (SMU
  • Smith School of Business at Queen’s University (Canada
  • IE Business School

If you participate in the Global MiM Network, you will take core modules at Imperial College Business School, before travelling overseas to complete additional courses at one or more of the other schools in the alliance. You will be supported in making your study decisions via a pathway programme, aligned across the curricula and individual expertise of each participating school.

During the exchange, you will also access additional benefits from the exchange school such as support from careers services, and attending on-campus recruitment events. You will gain greater cultural understanding of the country which you are studying in and become part of a much larger alumni network.

Upon graduation, you will receive a degree from Imperial as well as certificates reflecting the courses taken at other partner institutions.

There will be no additional tuition fees required to participate in the programme. Students will be required to submit an application to join the programme.

Student reflections on international experience

"I had never travelled to India before the Leadership in Action trip, and I learned so much through the experience. Not only did I experience the challenges and opportunities associated with working in India, I also gained a deeper appreciation for the wonderful hospitality, amazing food, and rich culture that sets the subcontinent apart as a cultural treasure. Getting to experience all that alongside many of my new friends from the programme made the trip all the more memorable."

"The most rewarding part of the program would have to be the international trip we took to Brazil/India. Coming to the tail end of our programme, I think that was definitely a highlight for me and an opportunity I wouldn’t have gotten in another programme at the Business School."

"Never in my life have I experienced something as challenging and fun at the same time as our Leadership in Action trip to São Paulo. Solving the problem of a small Brazilian firm in just five days with unexpected hurdles like a strong language barrier or a partial flooding of the city (surprised we learned that this is nothing unusual there) was stressful and demanding. At the same time, I highly enjoyed exploring the city of São Paulo and immersing into the Brazilian cuisine and culture (I just say Caipirinhas)."
