Global Summer School 2026 Mentor Supervision Declaration: Version 1.0

Students will be allocated to specific mentor groups of no larger than 10 students, with one mentor leading each group who is a current Imperial College undergraduate. Students will also be allocated to either Group A or Group B for the duration of the programme, and it will not be possible to request to move groups unless a genuine issue is identified. These groupings will be provided upon arrival to campus and we are unable to process requests to be in the same group as friends. It is important to note that although there will be regular opportunities to socialise with other groups, we do expect students to remain within their groups for the majority of activities.

Students will be part of three mentor groups which will be led by different mentors, and these are;

  • An academic mentor group in week one
  • An Innovation Challenge mentor group in week two
  • A pastoral mentor group for the duration of the programme.

Students will be supervised during the day by academic mentors, and by pastoral mentors during the evening and weekends. Students must remain in their mentor groups throughout the programme, including mealtimes, unless otherwise specified by programme staff. Pastoral mentors will be supervised by Pastoral Managers, and academic mentors will be supervised by the Global Summer School Team. If students have any concerns about their mentor or mentor group, they will be able to talk to the Programme Manager to resolve any issues.

Students will be expected to remain on campus or take part in the organised off campus social activities at all times, and should not make separate arrangements during the summer school with friends from the programme, or arrange to meet external friends and family at any point. This includes during mealtimes and social activities. These arrangements will not be approved by the Global Summer School Team and will be treated as a breach of the Behaviour and Learning Agreement. If there is a genuine need to leave the programme then should be discussed and agreed with the parent/guardian and Global Summer School Manager.

During certain social activities at specified times, students may have the opportunity to break off from the mentor groups and explore areas with friends from the programme outside their own mentor group. This opportunity will be given during set times at the discretion of Summer School staff, and students will be expected to sign in and out in accordance with specific procedures. If students do not follow instructions then we reserve the right to limit any future free time.

By signing this agreement, students are confirming they are aware of the supervision arrangements during the programme and agree to abide by these.

Parents or guardians must sign the agreement to confirm they are happy with the supervision arrangements, and also consent to allow students to take part in unsupervised free time outside of their mentor groups. If parents or guardians are not happy for their child to take part in unsupervised free time, please do not sign this agreement and contact globalsummerschool@imperial.ac.uk to discuss this.
