My research
Surgical Education: Surgical bootcamps to ease progression at training transition points.
Surgical Innovation: Validating orthotic adherence sensors for NIHR trials.
Spine: Predicting brace adherence and preference in paediatric scoliosis.
My inspiration
My patients and their families inspire me to pursue an academic career, and design research which can address the problems faced by my patients, and my colleagues impsire me to deliver the best possible health care.
Who is your STEM hero?
Sir John Charnley, English orthopaedic surgeon - the pioneer of modern orthopaedics who performed the first total hip replacement, and authored the book The Closed Treatment of Common Fractures
Most significant discovery/invention?
Discovery of Penicillin by Sir Alexander Fleming. Being able to fit infections with medication has saved millions of lives.
Career options after study
My main day to day job to looking after patients with orthopaedic problems affecting their bones and joints. But beyond this I can be involved with research, education and training, quality improvement in the NHS, local hospital management, and national health care strategies.
My hobbies
I love to do DIY and am currently renovating a house from scratch. The orthopaedic surgeon skills are coming in handy!
