The teaching and learning materials in Canvas are delivered to students through a Canvas course. Each course contains content specific to the enrolled cohort of students and is usually associated with a particular faculty or department.
The content, enrollments, and administration of courses in Canvas are the responsibility of the associated Faculty or Department.
For help and guidance of the best pedagogy of how to build your course, which tools to use and when, we recommend contacting your Faculty Ed-Tech Lab.

Find out when my course will be live to students?
Canvas courses are live to students once you have changed the course status to 'published' and the start date has passed.
- Curriculum courses will have a default start date that matches the Imperial term dates.
- Informational courses do not have a start date set by default.
Your faculty Ed-Tech lab may have organised a different start date for your course if it starts earlier than the expected term date would usually permit. You can check your course start date by viewing your course 'settings' from the left hand course menu.
