Getting started with Canvas
Who should attend?
This practical workshop provides an introduction to Canvas, Imperial’s Learning Management System (LMS). It is aimed at academic and professional services staff who are responsible for creating content and managing courses in Canvas.
From this hands-on familiarisation session, participants can expect a concise overview of the tools and features available in Canvas, including how to integrate and modify content and activities within a course. Methods for locating further information, help, and training will be highlighted throughout.
Prerequisite
No prior experience of Canvas is required, although attendees may find it helpful to familiar themselves with the basic navigation features. See Instructure’s help page to familiarise yourself with Canvas navigation.
Attendees are encouraged to bring their own device to the session to enable them to participate using Canvas.
Attending the training
Digital Education training is delivered both in-person and online via MS Teams. After signing up, joining instructions will be sent out shortly before the workshop takes place.
Learning outcomes
Upon completion of this workshop, participants will have:
- Navigated the Canvas environment and accessed support resources;
- Designed, organised and customised courses;
- Created, added and managed a range of learning materials;
- Managed user course enrolments and groups membership;
- Reviewed and published course content.
