UK Research and Innovation Future Leaders Fellowships are an exciting new opportunity to join Imperial.

This scheme intends to grow the strong supply of talented individuals needed to ensure that UK research and innovation continues to be world class. These Fellowships support applicants from diverse career paths, including those returning from a career break or following time in other roles.

• University Research Fellowships

These fellowships are available for outstanding scientists in the UK who are in the early stages of their research career and have the potential to become leaders in their field.

• Industry Fellowships

These fellowships are available for academic scientists who want to work on a collaborative project with industry and for scientists in industry who want to work on a collaborative project with an academic organisation.

• The Japan Society for the Promotion of Science Fellowships

JSPS Fellowhips are available for scientists in the UK who are at an early stage of their career and wish to conduct research in Japan. JSPS will provide funding for visits of 12-24 months, which include a subsistence and settling in allowance, a return flight and insurrance.The Japanese host institution may also apply for a research grant of up to ¥1.5 million per year.

• The Newton Advanced Fellowship

The Newton Advanced Fellowship provides established international researchers with an opportunity to develop the research strengths and capabilities of their research group through training, collaboration and reciprocal visits with a partner in the UK. The skills and knowledge gained should lead to changes in the wellbeing of communities and increased economic benefits.

• The Dorothy Hodgkin Fellowhip

The Dorothy Hodgkin Fellowhip is for outstanding early career researchers who require flexible working patterns due to personal circumstances such as parenting or caring responsibilities or health issues.

• Sir Henry Dale Fellowship

This fellowship is available to outstanding postdoctoral scientists wishing to build their own UK-based independent research career addressing an important biomedical question. Applications are considered 3 times a year.

• Senior Research Fellowship in Basic Biomedical Science

This scheme provides support for outstanding postdoctoral scientists based in academic institutions in the UK and Republic of Ireland. Candidates are expected to have an excellent track record in their scientific field and be able to demonstrate their ability to carry out independent research. Applications are considered 3 times a year.

• Research Career Development Fellowships

This scheme provides an opportunity for postdoctoral scientists from across the remits of the Trust's funding streams to become independent research scientists and undertake high-quality research in an eligible Republic of Ireland institution. Applications are considered 3 times a year. 

• Career Re-entry Fellowship

Career Re-entry fellowships are for postdoctoral scientists who have recently decided to recommence a scientific research career after a continuous break of at least two years. Applications are considered twice a year.

• Sir Henry Wellcome Postdoctoral Fellowships

Opportunity for the most promising newly qualified postdoctoral researchers to make an early start in developing their independent research careers. Applications are considered twice a year.

• Principal Research Fellowship

This is the most prestigious WT personal awards and provides long-term support for researchers of international standing. This is a rolling call, applicants can register their interest at any time.

• Career Development Fellowship

Career Development Fellowships are available to outstanding scientists to set up their first independent cancer research group.

• Senior Cancer Research Fellowhip

Senior Cancer Research Fellowships are available to outstanding scientists to establish or further develop an independent cancer research group.

• Emeritus Fellowship

Emerius Fellowships are designed for senior researchers who have retired from an academic post to complete a research project and prepare the results for publication.

• Early Career Fellowship

Early Career Fellowships aim to provide career development opportunities for those who are at a relatively early stage of their academic careers, but who have a proven record of research.

• Research Fellowship

Research Fellowships are open to experienced researchers, particularly those who are or have been prevented by routine duties from completing a programme of original research. Awards are not limited to those holding appointments in higher education.

• Royal Society Leverhulme Trust Senior Research Fellowship

These fellowships are for scientists who would benefit from a period of full-time research without teaching and administrative duties.

• RAEng Fellowship

The Royal Academy of Engineering has opened its 2015 call for RAEng Research Fellowships. These prestigious Fellowships are aimed at outstanding researchers from all branches of engineering who are about to complete their PhD or who have up to three years postdoctoral research experience.

• Research Chair and Senior Research Fellowship

This scheme aims to strengthen the links between industry and academia by supporting exceptional academics in UK universities to undertake use-inspired research that meets the needs of the industrial partners.

• Senior Research Fellowship

This scheme aims at relieving academics from their administrative responsibilities and concentrate full time on their research.

The British Science Association coordinates, delivers and oversees a number of different projects and programmes aimed at engaging more people with science and offer Media Fellowships.

A Daphne Jackson Fellowship is a unique fellowship designed to return STEM professionals to their careers after a break. Fellows normally carry out their research part-time over 2 years, in a university or research establishment in the UK. The Fellowships are flexible and include a tailored training programme designed to update skills and knowledge and support you in your return to research.

• 1851 Research Fellowship

These fellowships are available for scientists with 3 years or less post-doctoral experience.

• 1851 Industrial Fellowhips

These prestigious Fellowships are awarded to selected, exceptional graduates with the potential to make an outstanding contribution to Industry for a programme of doctoral level research.  They are open to company employed candidates or nominated Doctoral Centre / CASE candidates.

• Imperial College Research Fellowhips

Imperial's prestigious Research Fellowships sustain the brightest and best early career researchers from across the world, providing a level of commitment and support that is rare from a UK university.

The Imperial College Research Fellowship scheme is now closed.

• Chapman Fellowship (Mathematics)

Chapman Fellowships in the Department of Mathematics are two year appointments, starting October every year. These posts provide an excellent opportunity for those seeking to pursue an academic career in mathematics. Candidates for a Chapman Fellowship are expected to have proven research ability in mathematics. Candidates will demonstrate the potential for strong leadership qualities in the subject, as illustrated, for example, through showing initiative and independence on research projects. • MARIE SKLODOWSKA-CURIE INDIVIDUAL FELLOWSHIPS

Individual Fellowships fund researchers looking to enhance their career development and prospects by working abroad. Candidates may apply for a European Fellowship or a Global Fellowship by submitting their proposals through the CEC Participants Portal.

• European Research Council Starting Grant

ERC Starting Grants aim to support up-and-coming research leaders who are about to establish a proper research team and to start conducting independent research in Europe. The scheme targets promising researchers who have the proven potential of becoming independent research leaders. It will support the creation of excellent new research teams.
