Access to book collection and quiet study area

At all other times the library is unstaffed with no access to our book collection

Imperial and Chelwest Trust card holders with active library membership have 24/7 swipe card access to the main library outside of staffed opening hours, including bank holidays, providing access to the library PCs

Books can be returned 24/7 via the red book returns box at the library entrance

Books and journals

Our book collection covers general medicine (including medical textbooks), nursing and professions allied to medicine and also specialises in:

  • AIDS
  • emergency medicine
  • evidence-based medicine
  • mental health
  • midwifery
  • obstetrics & gynaecology
  • ophthalmology
  • paediatrics
  • plastic surgery

When the library is closed you can return books using the book returns box outside the library. 

Our journal collection is entirely electronic.


Training rooms

Chelsea and Westminster Campus Library users may book these rooms for group and project work:

"Due to social distancing requirements and reduced staffed hours during the COVID-19 pandemic, we currently only have 1 room available to book. This can accommodate a maximum of 8 people and is available to book 9.00 - 17.00, Monday - Friday"

Training room 1 (maximum 6 people)

Includes: 

  • 2 folding tables
  • 6 chairs and 1 computer chair
  • 1 wall mounted projector connected to an Imperial College London PC
  • 1 CW NHS Trust network socket
  • 2 Imperial College London networked PCs
  • Imperial College London network sockets

Training room 2 (maximum 20 people)

Includes:

  • 6 tables
  • 20 chairs
  • 1 flip chart stand
  • 2 ceiling mounted projectors connected to Imperial College London and CW NHS Trust networked PCs
  • 7 Imperial College London networked PCs
  • Imperial College London network sockets

Combine with room 3 to hold up to 40 people.

Training room 3 (maximum 20 people)

Includes: 

  • 6 tables
  • 20 chairs
  • 1 flip chart stand
  • 1 ceiling mounted projector connected to Imperial College London and CW NHS Trust networked PCs
  • Imperial College London network sockets

Combine with room 2 to hold up to 40 people.

Getting here

Use the revolving doors at the main entrance to Chelsea and Westminster Hospital.

  • Via the escalator: Walk to your right, past the hospital main reception, until you reach a fish tank. Turn right here for the escalator down to the lower ground floor. At the bottom of the escalator, turn right, then right again and go through the double doors. Head straight down the corridor - the Library is on the left with a red book returns box outside.
  • Via the lifts: Walk past the hospital main reception and head for Lift bank B. Take the lift down to the lower ground floor. Turn right on exiting the lift and go through the double doors. Head left down the main corridor and then turn left and head for the double doors. Go through these doors and head straight down the corridor - the Library is on the left with a red book returns box outside.
