As part of the feasibility study, the ICHT Clinical Division research manager carries out a review of the trial by looking at a range of criteria, and presentation at research strategy committee may be required covering:
- the anticipated funding body
- anticipated NHS service support costs and implications (to include research staff)
- whether the study is potentially eligible for NIHR LCRN funding (early consideration is important)
- whether the trial can be expected to deliver high quality data
- the CI/PI’s track record with similar trials previously, taking into consideration experience and qualifications, compliance with reporting requirements
- how the study idea fits in with the research strategy at Directorate or Divisional level
- capacity considerations for any clinical areas in supporting recruitment or providing service support to the study (strategic decision)
- sponsorship – lead or participating site (influences strategic consideration in respect of workload, income and publication)
