EPSRC UDLA Studentships are only available for studies which have not yet commenced. Please ensure you read these eligibility criteria before making an application.

Academic eligibility

Applicants should hold, or expect to receive, a first class or a good upper second class Honours degree (or equivalent). A pass or above at Masters level is acceptable, however a Masters degree is not required. Where an applicant does not meet this requirement (e.g. they hold a lower second class undergraduate degree), they are eligible if they hold, or expect to receive, a master's degree with minimum pass or equivalent before starting their studentship.

Please note that international candidates may be subject to different entry requirements.

Please refer to the Academic Requirements (Country and Region Index) guidance.

Residence eligibility

Following an announcement by UK Research and Innovation (UKRI), candidates of all nationalities are eligible to apply for an EPSRC UDLA studentship, and successful candidates will receive funding that includes tuition fees covered at home level.

Home students:
Successful home candidates will be awarded full funding. To be classed as a home student, applicants must meet criteria as set out on our fee status page.

If an applicant does not meet the criteria to be classed as a Home student, they would be classed as an international student.

International students:
International applicants are welcome to apply for EPSRC UDLA Studentships but places are restricted. This means that studentships are only offered to exceptional international candidates and are highly competitive.

Successful international candidates will be awarded an identical funding package as home candidates, with tuition fees covered at UKRI level, and will be required to make up the difference to the overseas tuition level.

If you have any questions regarding your fee status, or wish to appeal a given status, please follow the guidance on the fee status page.
