We want you to have a life-enhancing student experience at Imperial. Whether you're looking for information or seeking advice, you're in the right place to find out more about the wellbeing support options available to you as a postgraduate taught or research student in the Faculty of Medicine.

Where can I access support?

There are many avenues of support available - reach out if you need to. Find out who you can talk to and how to contact them via the information below:

Postgraduate support

Departmental support

There are different channels of support available within your department, including your Personal Tutor/Supervisor, Senior Postgraduate Tutors and Departmental Disability Officers.

Senior PG Tutors

Your department’s Senior Tutor has overall responsibility for the academic and pastoral care of postgraduate students in the department.  These experienced colleagues will be able to guide and support you in handling individual student problems or queries, and you should consult them if you are uncertain of how to proceed or would value a second opinion. Except in the case of familiar or straightforward interactions, personal tutors are advised to keep the Senior Tutor informed of their actions or to discuss an individual case before taking action with a student. You can find the contacts for your department below.

Department Disability Officers

Departmental disability officers (DDOs) are the first point of contact within a student's department. They will help organise and facilitate the support that the Disability Advisory Service have suggested within the department.

You can contact your DDO (info below) for help with issues such as:

  • specific questions about your course, studies or departmental facilities;
  • difficulties that might arise in the rare event that there is any problem in implementing our recommendations;
  • mitigating circumstances;
  • applying for additional exam arrangements.

Training and workshops

The Early Career Researcher Institute run a suite of Professional Development courses for PhD and Master's Students.

Be An Active Bystander

Active Bystanders reinforce messages defining the boundaries of unacceptable behaviour.

If we constantly reinforce messages about behaviour that is unacceptable, this puts considerable pressure on people to re-think their behaviour. So any level of inappropriate or unacceptable behaviour should not be ignored. Many individuals with problematic attitudes are likely to think their behaviour is normal if no one confronts it, and this can often be reinforced by cultural messages. Some might not care their behaviour causes harm to others, but some might not even realise.

Working collectively we can bring about change and create a safe and supportive community for all.

Crisis support

If you are experiencing a crisis or think you may need urgent support, find out who to contact via the Student Support Zone crisis support webpages or other sources of help from the Student Counselling and Mental Health Advice Service webpages.
