Who should attend?
This introductory, face-to-face Faculty of Medicine workshop is aimed at Imperial teaching staff who are new to teaching or those who wish to review their existing methods of assessing and providing feedback to learners. The workshop is interactive in nature and will explore how and why assessment and feedback can be used to develop students' learning. It will also provide opportunities for participants to practise the skills needed in facilitating feedback effectively.
Please note: this workshop has considerable overlap with 'A practical guide to giving effective feedback'; duplicating attendance at these workshops is likely to be unrewarding. This workshop is also intended to complement the 'Introduction to assessment for active learning' workshop. These two assessment-related workshops are meant to be complementary; attending both of them is not compulsory but is worthwhile if you are involved in both formative and summative assessment.
Key areas
- Key principles of assessment
- Guidelines for facilitating effective feedback
- Encouraging student reflection and active engagement with feedback
- Practicing feedback techniques
