New for the 2026/27 academic year, this scholarship provides financial support for external students from widening participation backgrounds taking their intercalated BSc at Imperial College London.

To be eligible to apply, candidates must:

  • Possess a Home tuition fee status.
  • Have applied for the School of Medicine intercalated BSc programmes (i.e.applicants whose first choice iBSc is Biomedical Engineering or Management, which are run by different Faculties within Imperial, are not eligible).
  • Have met their home institution’s definition of a Widening Participation candidate upon entry to their current degree programme. Applicants who are unsure if this applies to them should seek clarification from their home institution.
  • Not be in receipt of other scholarships or bursaries that would exceed the Imperial College Cost of Living in London if the SMDT was awarded (based on the average cost of living for 9 months).
  • Be in good standing.
