Internal students do not need to apply. All eligible internal students will automatically be considered for the scholarship. Full details will be shared separately with current Year 3 students.

The scholarship is open to all students who meet the following conditions by the deadline of 11:59 pm (UK local time), Friday 13th March 2026:
- Possess a Home tuition fee status
- Have met the definition of a Widening Participation candidate upon entry to their current degree programme
- Have applied for the School of Medicine intercalated BSc programmes* (external students) in 2026/27 academic year
- Not in receipt of other scholarships or bursaries that would exceed the Imperial College Cost of Living in London if the SMDT was awarded (based on the average cost of living for 9 months).**
- Be in good standing.
* Applicants whose first choice iBSc is Biomedical Engineering or Management are not eligible as these BScs are not run by the School of Medicine.
** Applicants are encouraged to apply for other funding sources, but if successful in obtaining this scholarship, they must disclose any additional awards they receive.
Application process
This application form must be completed and signed by the applicant and the Programme Director (or equivalent) of Medicine/Dentistry/Veterinary Science at the applicant’s home institution.
The completed application form must be returned by the applicant’s home institution, to feo.bsc@imperial.ac.uk by Friday 13th March 2026. Students will be considered for this award based on their iBSc application and their academic merit
Additional information
The St Mary’s Development Trust Intercalated BSc Scholarship is funded by contributions from the St Mary’s Development Trust (SMDT), with whom we share a commitment to reducing barriers to study. The scholarship is designed to support with living expenses and tuition fees for academically excellent students from under-represented backgrounds.
Ten scholarships will be awarded each academic year. Five will be awarded to internal MBBS students entering Year 4. Five scholarships will be awarded to external intercalating students with an offer to study a School of Medicine iBSc.
We aim to inform successful external applicants by the end of April 2026. Successful applicants will receive the awards upon commencement of the iBSc course in September 2026 and we aim to make payment in the first week of term.
This award is for students starting in the academic year 2026/27 and cannot be deferred. The award is conditional upon students successfully meeting the iBSc offer conditions and commencing their intercalated BSc studies in September 2026.
