Bioengineering Portfolio

The Portfolio assessment helps Biomedical Engineering and Molecular Bioengineering students develop professional practice and design skills through frequent assignments completed throughout the term. Students build a collection of work while developing their ability to work asynchronously and manage their own time. The Portfolio is primarily assessed individually, with one group task focused on engineering ethics.

Demo day - portfolio, video and presentation assessment

Industrial Design Engineering students develop a product that a company could theoretically manufacture through a project-based learning approach. Working from an open-ended brief, students select a problem they are interested in solving and develop their ideas with tutor guidance. At the end of the module, groups present their design through portfolio pages, video and presentations to communicate their final concept.

Integrating peer and self assessment into group work

This case study focuses on collaborative artefact creation and the development of professional practice skills through group-based design work. In the Year 2 Design and Professional Practice module, students produce a range of outputs including a product specification document, group presentation, demonstration poster and final report. Peer and self-assessment are embedded throughout to encourage reflection on the design process, individual contributions, teamwork and the development of the final artefacts.
