This case study outlines a group assessment in Marketing involving the creation of a commercial for a novel product or service. Groups of 4–5 students develop a product or service concept, distribution strategy, pricing and the theory behind the commercial. The 30–60 second commercial is uploaded as an unlisted YouTube video and presented in a 10-minute in-class presentation, completed over approximately three weeks.

This two-part group assessment involves students developing a scenario for a small company that has created an invention in an emerging technology area, followed by a consultancy task. Groups create a 4-slide presentation outlining their scenario, then advise another group’s company on how to successfully launch the innovation.
