Education Space Forum

The Education Space Forum is a sub-committee of the Education and Student Experience Committee chaired by the Associate Provost (Estates and Planning). It makes recommendations to the Education and Student Experience Committee to implement business to support the enhancement of education spaces. The purpose of the Forum is to facilitate discussion, horizon scanning and information sharing on current and emerging priorities and issues affecting education spaces. The Forum supports the development and enhancement of the physical environments used for teaching, learning, study and student services, aligning with academic need and ever evolving pedagogies.

Terms of Reference

• Provide an institutional forum for discussion and feedback on education space topics, including: 

1. Sharing current and emerging priorities, sector best practice and relevant external policy. 

2. Considering education space standards (not building standards), identifying and sharing existing internal and external best practices. 

3.Horizon scanning to identify future opportunities and risks, seeking out and identifying experts from across the sector to share their knowledge. 

4.The evaluation of our education spaces, including completed projects, post occupancy reviews and user feedback. 

5. The impact of evolving pedagogies, AI, digitally supported learning models, and changing student expectations on Imperial’s education space needs. 

• Consider the impact of existing and proposed spaces on the student experience including: 

1. Highlighting emerging or existing unmet education space needs.
2. Equitable access to appropriate spaces across all programmes and campuses.
3. Advocating for inclusive design principles, beyond minimum regulatory requirements, championing accessibility for all students in Education Space Design.
