The current Imperial News website is a standalone website created in 2014. The design is not aligned with the new brand, and the system and servers need to be updated.
As part of the broader Imperial website redesign project, the News site is being redeveloped in TerminalFour, our main Imperial Content Management System (CMS). Over 80% of news editors currently use T4, and a full programme of work, including training and content migration, is underway.
Training
To be able to create stories in the new system, you’ll need to have completed two training courses:
- Main T4 CMS course (covers how to create and edit content in the main Imperial content management system) – request T4 training here if you haven’t yet done it
- News-specific training (covers all aspects of how to create and edit articles in the new News system) – request News training here if you haven’t yet done it
Note that if you’ve previously completed T4 training, you can go straight into the News module.
Frequently asked questions
- I’ve completed both courses – what next?
- How many articles should I create in advance of 19 November?
- In which path should I create my real articles?
- What will happen to old published articles?
- What will happen to old draft/unpublished articles?
- Is there going to be a content freeze?
- When will the new system go live?
- I have recreated an old article in T4, can I set up a redirect?
After completing both courses, you’ll have full access to the new News system. You can then begin to recreate some key news articles you had previously set up in the old News system.
This will make sure there’s a selection of key articles lined up and ready to go when we launch the new system on 19 November.
It’s up to you and there is no maximum, but the suggestion is to recreate one to four articles, making sure any of your important or highly trafficked existing articles are accounted for.
In training, you used the path:
Newsroom » Main Imperial news articles » Training news articles » 2025
For creating real articles, you should scan the folder categories under ‘Main Imperial news articles’ and create your article under the ‘year’ folder of the relevant category.
E.g., if I wanted to add an article for the Department of Brain Sciences, I would use this path:
Newsroom » Main Imperial news articles » Faculty of Medicine news articles » Department of Brain Sciences news articles » 2025

Any published articles set up in the old News system will be archived and will be accessible from the search page. This means that none of the articles you had previously created will be lost.
These will be lost after the shift to the new system. Make sure to save any content from draft/unpublished articles in a Word document (or similar), as draft/unpublished content will be completed and permanently removed between 14-19 November.
Yes, the current News system will go into a content freeze from 14-19 November. During this time, you won’t be able to create articles – if you have anything that needs to be released urgently during the freeze period, please contact the Digital team (Adam Piccolo a.piccolo@imperial.ac.uk or Geoff Day g.day@imperial.ac.uk) in the first instance.
The target date is set for 19 November 2025.
If you have recreated an existing news article in T4 (or plan to), then we can set up a redirect from the old article to the new one once the T4 news site is launched, so that people visiting the old article URL will automatically be shown the new version of the article.
To request a redirect please complete this form.
You will be asked to enter the URL of the old news article e.g. https://www.imperial.ac.uk/news/270053/new-study-challenges-ecological-fears-around/ and the URL of the article you have published on T4.
Any requests received by 5pm on Monday 17th November, will be set up by 8am on the Wednesday 19th November. Any requests received after 5pm on Monday will be added to the following week's requests.
If you have any questions about redirects for the news website please contact Geoff Day or Adam Piccolo in the Digital team.
