To be eligible for the Open Day Travel Bursary, you must either be in Year 12 or Year 13 in September 2025 and currently attending a UK state school.

The bursaries will provide return rail or public transport to our September Open Day. These bursaries are funded from Imperial's access and participation funds, so priority will be given to applicants that fall into groups currently underrepresented in higher education. Please see details of the eligibility criteria below.

Applying for travel bursary

We will provide paid tickets for successful applicants via rail or other reasonable public transport where rail is not feasible. When filling out the application form please make sure that you enter your details carefully as they will be used to book your tickets for travel if successful.

This application form is for the travel bursary only, you will need to register for any departmental sessions separately on our Open Day page.

Eligibility criteria

You must be in Year 12 or Year 13 and at a UK state school.

If we receive more applications than there are bursaries available, then priority will be given to applicants that meet the most of the following eligibility criteria:

 

  • Attend a non-selective school
  • Are the first in their family to attend university
  • Have been eligible for free school meals
  • Have spent any amount of time in local authority care
  • Are a participant, or have a place, on a Year 12 or Year 13 Imperial Outreach Programme

We may also look at information about your school or postcode to understand if you come from a school with low overall attainment or high proportion of free school meals students, or if you live in a disadvantaged area (IMD) or area where not many students progress to higher education (POLAR).

We may also consider the travel distance from your home to our South Kensington Campus.

If we receive more applications than bursaries available, then the more criteria you meet, the more likely your application will be successful.
