Make the most of your open day

Join us at our South Kensington Campus on Wednesday 26 June and Thursday 27 June and experience what it is like to study at Imperial College London.

Our on-campus Open Days are a great opportunity to:

  • explore our South Kensington Campus, facilities and student accommodation
  • attend departmental sessions for the subjects you're interested in studying
  • listen to talks giving tips on making your application and the admission process
  • meet staff and students, and ask them any questions you may have

Book your place

You will need to book an Open Day place to guarantee your seat in your preferred departmental sessions. You can book a place for you and one guest in up to three sessions.

Departmental sessions are held at 10.00, 12.30 and 15.00.

Sessions have limited capacity, so if the department you're interested in does not appear as an option on the booking form, it is fully booked.

Family, friends and supporters are welcome to come with you for the day, however, due to limited capacity we only allow one guest to join you at departmental sessions. We encourage students to attend departmental sessions without a guest if possible so we can offer places for these sessions to as many students as we can.

To get an idea of what activities to expect beyond the departmental sessions, and how to prepare for your day, check out our make the most of your day pages.

I went to the Open Day for my year of entry and spoke to chemical engineering students while I was there. I got such good impressions of everyone, they were all extremely friendly and welcoming, and answered all my questions about studying at Imperial. It really felt like a community where I could fit in. – Paulina, MEng Chemical Engineering

Booking FAQs

Do I need to book to attend?

We recommend booking in advance for Open Days. This means you can receive our communications about Open Days before the event.

If you want to attend a departmental session, you must book these in advance. You can book a place for you and one guest at up to three departmental sessions on the booking form for Open Days.

Can I bring guests?

Yes! You’re welcome to bring guests along to join you at Open Days, however, if you want a guest to join you at a departmental session, you will have to book their place in advance.

Will I receive confirmation of my booking?

When you complete your booking, you’ll be able to view your booking reference number, QR code and details any departmental sessions you have booked on screen.

We’ll also send a confirmation email to the address used on your booking form with your booking reference number and QR code. Check your email address is correct before making your booking to make sure you receive the confirmation email.

Sometimes our confirmation emails can end up in spam folders. If you don’t receive your confirmation email, contact us at and we can check your details.

The day before Open Day, we’ll email you a copy of your booking QR code. Please have this available on the day, as you’ll need it to check-in at our Welcome Points and to enter any pre-booked departmental sessions. You can display the QR code on your phone or bring a printed copy.

The departmental session/s I want to attend are fully booked and not appearing, what should I do?

We recommend you still book a place and attend our Open Day, as there are lots of activities that don’t need booking in advance. You can see what’s on offer on our making the most of the day pages.

Our booking system doesn’t offer a waiting list for departmental sessions, but we do release places if there are cancellations. Keep an eye on our schedule to check if places become available for session(s) you're interested in.

Occasionally, places can be available for departmental sessions on Open Day, however due to limited capacity, we can’t guarantee a seat without a booking.

Is there a difference between the two June Open Days?

No. Both days have a very similar programme, with activities running from 09.00 to 16.30 (UK time). The format of Open Day means that you only need to attend one of the days, and you can choose your preferred day when you book your place.

Remember, because our departmental sessions are very popular, you may not be able to transfer your booking if you want to change the day that you attend.

Can I edit my booking?

Yes, just, log back into our online booking system with your email address and your booking reference number – you can find this on your email confirmation.

Be careful not to cancel your departmental sessions when editing guest details.

If you have any problems or need help with editing your booking, drop us a line with your name, email address and booking reference number at

If you have any problems cancelling your booking, contact us with your name, email address and booking reference number:

What is different about the 12.30 Medicine departmental session on the booking form?

The 12.30 departmental session for Medicine takes place in the Great Hall. It's our largest lecture theatre and seats are available on a first-come first-served basis.

You can select this session on the booking form if you intend to attend the 12.30 session, but this doesn't guarantee you a space at the talk. We recommend arriving early to this talk to get a spot!

Booking is required for the 10.00 and 15.00 sessions for Medicine in the Sir Alexander Fleming Building.

How can I apply for the travel bursary?

Applications for our travel bursary have now closed.

You can find all the details about the travel bursary on our travel bursary page

Do you take group bookings for schools?

No, unfortunately limits on numbers at our departmental sessions means we are unable to accommodate school bookings.

However, if you are a teacher, your students can book a place directly using our online booking system.

Teachers are also welcome to attend the event and there are a range of activities that do not require advance booking.

I can't attend these Open Days. How do I book for the next ones?

Our next Open Day at our South Kensington Campus takes place on Saturday 14 September 2024. Bookings will open around seven weeks before the event. Join our mailing list to hear first when bookings open.

We'll also be running Virtual Open Day sessions for everyone who can't join us at an on-campus event.

Bookings will open shortly and these online events will run between 15 and 26 July 2024.
