Imperial Inspires Scholarships

  1. These terms and conditions govern the application and administration of the Imperial Inspires Scholarship Programme (“the Scholarship”).
  2. These terms and conditions apply to the new undergraduate and postgraduate taught students taking up a place of study at Imperial College London (“Imperial”) in the 2027–28 academic year.
  3. The Scholarship is designed to support talented students from the UK and around the globe to access an Imperial education.
  4. The Scholarship is awarded by Imperial. In 2027–28 Imperial will offer at least 300 scholarships to full-time Overseas fee-paying students.
  5. The Scholarship is discretionary and is awarded on a very competitive basis. Award of the Scholarship will be assessed as set out in these terms and conditions, and not all students who apply for it will be successful.

Eligibility Criteria

6. The award is subject to you fulfilling any outstanding conditions of admission before you can register, and any outstanding conditions of your award before your award can be confirmed.

7. The full list of eligible undergraduate and postgraduate taught departments for each year of entry can be found on the Scholarship search tool

8. Scholarships cannot be deferred for future years. If you defer your place, your Scholarship will be withdrawn, and you will need to reapply for your year of entry.

Scholarship Application Process

9. The process for applying for the Scholarship is linked to but separate from the application for a place to study at Imperial.

10. The information provided in the Scholarship application will not impact the decision made on your admissions application. Eligible applicants who meet the minimum entry requirements for their chosen course will be invited to apply after making an admissions application. The application will be submitted via the admissions i360 portal.

11. Eligible offer holders who have deferred their entry will be invited to apply for the scholarship during the admissions cycle for their year of entry.

12. For 2027 entry, undergraduate scholarships will be awarded by mid-April 2027. Postgraduate taught scholarships will be awarded in each admissions round – full details about our admissions rounds are available on our Postgraduate taught deadlines page. If your application is successful, you will receive your offer of admission and the Scholarship offer on the decision date of the admissions round in which you apply. You can find details of the admissions round dates and deadlines in the How to apply section of your course page on our Study website.

13. Undergraduate scholarship applications will be assessed based on the admissions application process and the statement provided on the Scholarship application form. Postgraduate taught scholarship applications will be assessed based on academic merit/potential using the admissions application.

Scholarship Value and What It Covers

14. Each Scholarship will be at least £15,000 per annum for the full duration of your course, excluding repeat years of study and not payable while on interruption of studies.

15. Breakdown on how the award is applied towards tuition fees and maintenance stipend is at discretion of faculty. The details of this will be outlined on the Scholarship award letter.

Conditions of Scholarship

16. This Scholarship is subject to satisfactory academic progression. If the duration of the Scholarship is longer than 11 months, your eligibility for the award will be reviewed annually.

17. You may be expected to participate in activities to thank and update the donor(s) supporting the award. This may include a thank you message, providing regular written updates on your academic progress, attending events or meetings with donor(s). Travel costs to meetings or events will not necessarily be reimbursed, therefore please check with the Scholarships team regarding your specific award.

18. Multiple awards will not be permitted to be held whereby one of those awards is a full scholarship. A full scholarship is one which covers your tuition fees and your maintenance costs (as indicated by Imperial’s Cost of Living in London figures), or whereby the combination of two awards will take your total value of your award towards living costs over our Cost of Living in London totals.

19. If you are granted more than one award, you must immediately inform the Scholarships team, and/or any other department that administers the award/s. If you wish to hold several partial awards concurrently, this will be considered on a case-by-case basis. The annual stipend/maintenance costs will be capped at the totals published on our Cost of Living in London page.

20. If you receive an incorrect payment, you must notify the Scholarships team immediately to arrange for this to be resolved.

21. In the case of overpayment, Imperial will contact you to arrange a repayment schedule. Failure to respond to Imperial’s communications will result in a reduction to your remaining payments in order to reclaim the overpaid funds. This will be done in the current year or the next year.

22. You are expected to act in accordance with the student code of conduct.

23. The Scholarship team may, at any time, withdraw or recover an award for breach of any of these conditions.

24. If your fee status changes at any stage during the academic year, you will become ineligible and your scholarship will end.

Payment details

25. The tuition fee portion of the Scholarship will be paid directly to Imperial.

26. All the stipend portion of the Scholarship will be made to your UK bank account using the bank details held on My Imperial. You should add your UK bank account details to My Imperial at your earliest opportunity. It may take a few weeks to set up your UK bank account, therefore you should have sufficient funds to cover your living expenses during this initial period.

27. The cut-off for all payments to be initiated or revised is normally the 20th of each month. Any student who begins their course after this date, or requires any changes made after this date, will take effect from the next month. Additional pay runs are made throughout October and November to reduce delays in initial payments. For example, if you begin your course on 28th October, you will receive your first payment on 21st November.

28. New undergraduate student payments will commence from 7th October, provided you have entered your UK bank account details within MyImperial and are fully registered at Imperial.

29. Continuing and all postgraduate student payments will commence from 7th October.

30. All monthly payment dates are the 7th day of each month. Bank details should be updated on MyImperial before midnight on the 20th day of the previous month to ensure payment is not delayed. If the 7th falls on a weekend you will receive payment on the preceding Friday.

Changes to Study Status

31. If you are not registered at Imperial, the Scholarship will be stopped.

32. If you withdraw from your programme, the Scholarship will be stopped.

33. If you take an interruption of studies, the Scholarship will be stopped and will resume once you re-enrol.

34. If you repeat a year of study the Scholarship will be postponed until you progress onto the next year.
