We have been working to re-design the Imperial website over the last eighteen months, the redesigned site will go live on Tuesday 17 September

The new website will reflect the new Imperial brand, as well as updating search and the global navigation, improving the visitor experience.

Staff, students and the wider Imperial community have been consulted as part of the project, taking part in surveys, focus groups and user testing. We have also been working to make the website more accessible as a key part of the project.

This will include a new site-wide design, new page layouts, navigation, and information architecture, all based on user requirements. We will also incorporate the new Imperial brand, developed in parallel with this project. Accessibility and inclusivity will be at the heart of the new website design.

We completed the design phase of the project in June 2024. You can read more about our new design and see examples of how the website will look on our design phase page.

The discovery and consultation phase of the project ran from June to October 2023. We consulted to key stakeholders and audiences to gather requirements and ideas for the future direction of the Imperial website.

Alongside the website project, we are also implementing an audience-focused content strategy, working with teams across Imperial to audit-review and focus the content that has built up over the last ten years of the current website's life cycle.

The website will continue to be based on the TerminalFour (T4) Content Management System and hosting, which was upgraded in 2022. This approach means we do not need to rebuild the website from scratch on a new platform, saving time and money.

This project is closely aligned with the Imperial brand project.

The new Imperial website will:

  • Be sector leading
  • Represent Imperial as a leading STEMB University
  • Implement a new design and templates to represent the Imperial brand
  • Have accessibility and inclusivity at its heart
  • Improve the user experience and way finding
  • Review and improve governance and content

Content audit

As part of the website redesign process, we are auditing the content on the main Imperial website (managed by T4) to help content owners understand what content they have and how to get it in shape before the new website design is completed.
