Course overview

Enhance your analytical and problem-solving skills for a career in bioengineering research on this Master's course.

You'll advance your knowledge of engineering, biology and medicine, and discover how bioengineering techniques can improve sustainability and human health through cross-disciplinary activities.

You'll learn through a mixture of lectures and practical work, before applying your skills to a research project. Seminars and workshops will deepen your skill base and analytical expertise for a role within bioengineering research.

You'll also have the opportunity to participate in mini-symposia guided by experts in academia and industry.

This course is available both part-time and full-time, making it suitable if you're looking to fit studies around your professional commitments.

Core modules

For the Topics in Bioengineering Research module you’ll choose two optional modules.

 

Optional modules

You'll complete a research project supported by at least one academic member of staff. 

Your supervisor will be an expert in their field, with a keen interest in your particular research topic. Your research project will be agreed with your MRes supervisor(s) at the time of application.

The research project provides you with an opportunity to develop advanced knowledge, and master experimental and writing skills on your chosen research theme. 

For those on the full-time programme, you will complete a 9-month research project with full-time project work starting in the spring term. For those on the part-time programme, you will complete your core modules including the research planning module in the 1st year. In the 2nd year you will focus on carrying out the project. 

Professional accreditation

This degree is accredited by the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), the Institution of Mechanical Engineers  (IMechE), the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining (IOM3) and the Institution of Engineering Designers (IED), on behalf of the Engineering Council as meeting the requirements for Further Learning for registration as a Chartered Engineer.

Our course accreditations are renewed every five years (renewal due 2029).
