Data-enabled Design Science for Strategic Futures

Abstract
The future of design lies at the intersection of human foresight and machine intelligence. As organisations seek more evidence-based and data-driven approaches to strategic planning, there is a growing need for methods that connect data analytics with futures thinking. This PhD will develop new design-led frameworks and tools that use information systems and emerging technologies - such as AI and large language models - to generate, interrogate, and evaluate alternative futures. By integrating predictive analytics with scenario-based design, the project aims to enhance confidence and creativity in strategic decision-making, enabling organisations to design for preferable, sustainable futures.
