Co-Evolving Minds: Understanding Human Cognition in the Age Of AI-Mediated Information

Abstract
This PhD project investigates how human thinking patterns interact with the content and style of AI-generated communication over time. As AI systems increasingly shape how people learn, decide, and communicate, understanding these interactions is crucial. The research explores how cognitive biases, attention, and trust evolve through ongoing human–AI exchanges, and how factors such as uncertainty, coherence, and emotional tone influence perception and behaviour. Using experimental and computational methods, the project will develop an evidence-based framework for designing AI communication that complements human cognition, fosters critical engagement, and supports healthier long-term relationships with digital information.
