Cassini was a collaboration between NASA, the European Space Agency (ESA), and the Italian Space Agency (ASI) to send a probe to study the planet Saturn and its system, including its rings and natural satellites.
Current status: Mission ended 15.09.17 on Saturn
Imperial’s involvement: The Imperial College Cassini Magnetometer (MAG) Group has overall responsibility of the magnetometer instrument on Cassini. The magnetometer recorded the direction and strength of magnetic fields around the spacecraft. Professor Michele Dougherty is principal investigator for the magnetometer (MAG) instrument onboard the spacecraft.
