University of Ghana
The University of Ghana, the premier university in Ghana, was founded as the University College of the Gold Coast by Ordinance on August 11, 1948 for the purpose of providing and promoting university education, learning and research. It is is the oldest and largest of the six public universities in Ghana and occupies a large and beautiful campus in downtown Accra. The University of Ghana has approximately 70,000 students, including 9500 Graduate students. It is administered through a collegiate system comprising the following colleges, as well as a central administration that includes a School of Graduate Studies and an Office of International Programmes:
- College of Basic and Applied Sciences (Research areas - Agricultural Research, Biotechnology and Health, Crop Science, Environment and Sustainability, Technology and Innovation)
- College of Education
- College of Health Sciences
- College of Humanities
