What is dAIsy?
dAIsy is Imperial's AI platform, designed to give you safe, easy access to multiple generative AI models (such as GPT, Claude, Deepseek, and others) through a single interface.
dAIsy is built to support teaching, learning, and research while ensuring data protection and institutional compliance.
How to get started
- Go to the dAIsy platform.
- Click on the Microsoft log in button - which uses your Imperial credentials to log you in.
- Choose the AI Agent you want to use from the available model options. E.g. Claude Sonnet 4
- Start chatting. Ask questions, draft content, or explore ideas.
- Create a customised Personal Agent (optional). You can add instructions, upload files, or link resources for tasks.
Imperial's Generative AI Principles
Before you start experimenting with dAIsy you should read the dAIsy Use Policy, Code of Practice 8 - Use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the Generative AI Principles as a starting point for approaches to using generative AI in teaching, learning and assessment at Imperial.
You can also find some great student guidance on the Generative AI and Study Guidance Hub and staff guidance on the Generative AI & Education Guidance Hub.

- What Agent should I use?
Remember to expect imperfections: you must verify facts and cite sources where appropriate.
Once you have signed in with your Imperial credentials via Microsoft Single Sign-On, you can choose from the default Official Agents or you have the option to create a Personal Agent.
If you want to create a more sophisticated agent, you can request a developer role and the Digital Education team will be in touch with further instructions.
Tops tips for using Agents
- State your goal clearly; provide relevant context or example text.
- Iterate: review, refine your prompt, and fact‑check key claims.
- For assessments, follow module rules and acknowledge permissible AI use.
- Save/export results; avoid storing sensitive data.
Dos and Don’ts
Do:
- Use dAIsy for drafting, summarising, and idea generation.
- Acknowledge permitted AI use in assessments as instructed by your department.
- Prototype agents only within your assigned role/caps.
- Students - Only use AI if your module permits it. When permitted, briefly acknowledge the tool/version and how it was used (e.g., brainstorming, editing).
Don’t:
- Treat outputs as authoritative without checking.
Help and incidents
- ICT Service Desk and raise a ticket with the Category: 'Generative AI/dAIsy'.
- Report misuse or data concerns immediately to the ICT Service Desk.
- See the FAQs below and the dAIsy Use Policy for more detail.
| Person Type | Allowed - typical use |
Approval required - Cautionary use |
|---|---|---|
|
Students |
Brainstorming, outlining, rewriting your own notes; citation help where permitted (acknowledge the use of Gen AI). | Any assessment use must follow module rules; never upload personal/sensitive data |
|
Academic Staff |
Drafting teaching materials; rubrics; formative feedback exemplars; pilot chatbots in sandbox. | Student assessment guidance must be explicit; check copyright for third-party inputs. |
|
Researchers |
Exploratory prompting with non-personal data; method prototyping. | Any personal/sensitive data needs ethics/DPIA and explicit approval when Developing Agents |
|
Professional Services staff
|
Draft comms, FAQs, document templates; process ideas. | Publishing requires review. |
Official Agents
These are the LLM agents (e.g. Claude or ChatGTP 4) provided by the university. These will be updated on an ongoing basis when new models are tested and become available.
Personal Agents
Personal Agents are user-created or user-owned agents. They allow you to define instructions, roles, or behaviours suited to your specific needs.
Best for tasks that need a tailored workflow, repeated instructions, or a role-based agent (e.g. “literature summariser” or “teaching prep assistant”).
Specialised Agents
Specialised Agents are designed for advanced or highly specific use cases.
They may be created for departmental workflows, complex research projects, or administrative functions that cannot be supported by standard Official or Personal Agents.
These Agents are not visible to all users, access is controlled by the Developer, and in some cases, they may need to be created upon request.
This pathway should only be followed if neither Official Agents nor Personal Agents are sufficient to meet the requirements.
See Access and roles below to request access or create Specialised Agents.
All staff and students automatically start as Basic Users with access to Official Agents and Personal Agents.
See examples of the Roles below:
| Role | What you can do | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Basic (default role) | Use the default Official Agents provided and create your own Personal Agents | Users have access to default Official Agents and can create their own Personal Agents. Users can not share their Personal Agents with anyone else. |
| Developer (Access request required) |
The added ability to request access to Specialised Agents and share these with others in groups. |
Used for specialised use cases. Specialised Agents are created by approved users with Developer Access, supported by ICT. Developer Access is only granted after ICT has reviewed a use case request is recieved. If you require Developer access, please submit a request. |
You can experiment with any of the Agents available to you when you log in.
Click on Agents > View all Agents > Browse all agents to see the full list, then hover over the agent to see the models capabilities.

What's the difference between MS Co-Pilot and dAIsy?
Microsoft Copilot is also available to all staff and students to use. It has a built-in AI assistant designed to boost productivity in apps like Word, Excel, and Teams, using your Microsoft 365 data securely.
dAIsy uses Cloudforce NebulaONE, and is a customisable GenAI platform that lets you build private, multi-model AI agents tailored to your own data and workflows.
While Copilot is great for everyday tasks, dAIsy offers deeper control, flexibility, and privacy for teams needing advanced AI solutions across education, healthcare, and enterprise.
How does the GPT models offered through the new platform compare to the ChatGPT Pro licenses?
The GPT5 model offered on dAIsy is the same as ChatGPT basic, plus and pro licenses. dAIsy is hosted securely within Imperial's Cloud Infrastructure.
