James Toner, Director of Digital Education Services has over fifteen years of professional experience in e-learning and education. During this time, James has led, created, supported, consulted, managed and developed several e-learning strategies, innovations and initiatives. He has experience in both the private and Higher Education sector, which has involved UK wide and overseas delivery (Europe, the Middle East, India and East Asia), liaising with diverse suppliers and partners, delivering a range of educational services and products. 

For the last eight years James was the Head of Digital Education and the Centre for Technology Enhanced Learning (CTEL) at King’s College London. The team has a cross-college focus on innovative, sustainable, and scalable technology to support the student and staff education experience. James recently spearheaded King’s College’s digital education response to Covid, based on his prior leadership of a multimillion-pound Technology Enhanced Learning (TEL) strategy and supporting transformation programme. In this role, providing oversight and ensuring flexible and blended options were available and utilised across King’s during this challenging time. 

James holds an MA in Academic Practice (Technology Enabled) and is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (HEA), which provides the appreciation of pedagogic matters in digital education and complements his practical teaching experience. James also has qualifications in project management (Prince2 and Managing Successful Programmes) to complement his BA (Hons) degree in Computing and Information Systems where he specialised in usability and human-computer interaction. 

Digital Education Services Team

Digital Education Services provides technology support and learning systems for the students and staff of the College. The team has innovation at its core and supports both audio visual equipment across campus and the education platforms that are used in teaching and learning.

The team is pivotal in the ongoing work to improve education support services and the offering available within College. On behalf of ICT the team ensure our efforts align both to the Educational Strategy and to an outstanding experience for students, staff and visitors.

Our experts are driving the delivery of reliable AV, the introduction of innovative technologies and practices, responsive support and effective advice, guidance and help. Our goal is to allow all members of the College to harness technology to support different teaching pedagogies and allow students to experience new approaches to the delivery of teaching and learning.
